Collaborative 1440 Minutes Event Invites Creativity
Colorado Springs, Colo – May 28, 2009 – The Gallery of Contemporary Art (GOCA) at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and the InterDisciplinary Experimental Arts program (I.D.E.A.) at Colorado College, announce the second 1440 Minutes art installation and exhibition event on Friday, June 19 at the FAC Modern, 121 S. Tejon St. The public installation takes place between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., and is followed by a free reception from 5 to 8 p.m., hosted by the Cultural Office of the Pikes Peak Region (COPPeR).
A collaborative public program supporting Colorado contemporary artists, 1440 Minutes is intended to facilitate an ongoing dialogue among art, artists and gallery audiences, as well as to provide a link between art spaces in Colorado Springs. Focusing on the theme “Economic Creativity,” the event challenges artists to install – and in some cases perform – their artworks within a 24-hour period.
To address this year’s theme of “Economic Creativity,” exhibition curators Caitlin Green (GOCA) and Jessica Hunter Larsen (I.D.E.A.) invited regional artists to submit installation or performance-based proposals that explore how artistic innovations drive future economic and cultural growth. The projects selected for the exhibition examine how, during this time of great change, we can – and should – use or re-use elements of our personal, cultural and material past to re-envision a healthy, sustainable future. Participating artists include atomic elroy and Zelda Bubbles; Jocelyn Nevel and Melanie Grimes; Philip Faulkner; and David Fodel.
Between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on June 19 at the FAC Modern galleries, the artists will prepare and install their work. Then, at 5 p.m., when the final touches are completed, the exhibition opens for a three-hour reception featuring performance and participatory installations. Joining in the festivities next door, COPPeR will host an open house in its offices adjacent to the FAC MODERN galleries.
All are invited to come have a sip (wine from Nosh and beer from Bristol Brewing) and a nibble (tacos from La'au's), and learn more about COPPeR's efforts to advance art and culture.
